Raiders Notes: Rookie Class Plans, Brandon Bolden Tops Important Category

Raiders Notes: Brandon Bolden nearly tops an impressive NFL category

The Raiders did a superb job of reloading their running back stable. Already featuring Jacobs and Drake wasn’t nearly enough for new head coach Josh McDaniels. For those who aren’t familiar with McDaniels, saying he likes his running game is an understatement. He consistently featured a running back committee during his tenure as the New England Patriots offensive coordinator. Now leading the Raiders, McDaniels is obviously sticking to what has worked for him in his career. To help transition the Raiders into his style of offense, the team acquired Brandon Bolden.

What will Bolden bring to Las Vegas?

If there’s one thing that McDaniels knows how to do, it’s win football games. Bolden is also familiar with this; the two-time Super Bowl champion brings a winning pedigree to the running back position. On top of that, Bolden proved to be versatile in his own right last year. In the Patriots’ offense, which was led by rookie quarterback Mac Jones, he caught 41 passes for 405 yards.

However, a stat that has made waves regarding Bolden is his broken tackle rate. Football Outsiders recently shared a Tweet pointing out that Bolden is second, behind Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, in that key stat. With 29.8 percent, Kelce topped their list. Bolden, meanwhile, totaled a 28.2 broken tackle percentage. According to Pro Football Reference, Bolden has had four broken tackles in the last two seasons.

Stay tuned, as we’ll keep you updated with Raiders Notes this week. Training camp is here, folks.
