Raiders CB Nate Hobbs Destined For A Pro Bowl Season Says PFF

Nate Hobbs, a Las Vegas Raiders cornerback, was recently in the news thanks to a viral post by former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson. In it, we see Davante Adams dominate Hobbs, as the second-year defensive back freezes and gets beat. However, people seem to be overlooking that metal sharpens metal. Last season, Hobbs was one of the best nickel corners in the league. Defending Adams every day is only going to help him. In other words, Hobbs could be getting primed for a special year. Perhaps even a Pro Bowl nod, says Pro Football Focus.

While making bold predictions for each of the squads in the AFC West, Sam Monson noted that he believes Hobbs will be taking his game to another level.

“A real bright spot for the Raiders last season was rookie cornerback Nate Hobbs’ play, as he trailed only Maxx Crosby in terms of PFF grade on defense. Hobbs primarily lined up in the slot and allowed just 8.5 yards per catch on the season. The Raiders ran a very predictable defense last season, but with a new coaching staff, Hobbs could see a benefit from a little more variety in terms of coverage. Hobbs has the talent to be one of the best slot corners in the league, and that could see him find a spot in the Pro Bowl.”

The Raiders have a new defensive approach that will benefit Nate Hobbs

With just one preseason game under the new Raiders’ coaching staff, Hobbs is already getting new looks. Primarily defending the slot under Gus Bradley last year, it’s clear that with Patrick Graham running the defense, players will be asked to play different spots. In limited action during last week’s preseason game, Hobbs looked good playing on the outside.

In addition, Hobbs has been impressive in camp so far. For example, Hobbs got an interception today in practice, as reported by the Raiders’ digital reporter, Levi Edwards. It’s becoming the norm to hear daily reports about Hobbs’ making strides. Maybe a Pro Bowl nod isn’t too far-fetched of a prediction.
