Raiders’ rival coach speaks on Davante Adams’ greatness

Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett met with the media ahead of their Week 4 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. During the exchange, Hackett expressed how much he appreciates Adams.

“He’s a guy who I’ve been with for the past three years. He’s an amazing human being and somebody that’s very dear to my heart,” Hacket said.

Despite all the feelings and emotions, Hackett reiterates that the Broncos have to try to stop Adams in their Week 4 matchup against the Raiders. “We have to stop him. I know that he’s a dynamic receiver with how he can get the ball vertically, intermediate, and all over the place. He is a very smart football player,” Hackett said.

Raiders WR Davante Adams and Nathaniel Hacket share a connection

Hackett and Adams were with the Green Bay Packers during the 2019-2021 seasons. During this three-year period, they helped the Packers boast an impressive 39-10 record. Adams was also the focal point of Hackett’s offense, where he put up 3,924 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Hackett’s defense has been the strong part of the Broncos, thus far. But he says Adams will be a great test for them. “It’s going to be a great, great challenge for all, it’s not just going to be one guy. It’s going to take the whole team to know where he is and how to stop him,” Hackett said.

Obviously, Hackett won’t reveal how the Broncos will try to contain Adams, but they have a star cornerback in Patrick Surtain II. The second-year corner is already one of the best in the league, and don’t be surprised when he shadows Adams all game long.

Hackett spoke on Adams’ great touchdown reception against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. “He had an amazing catch in the red zone for a touchdown. It just shows how good he is even when he’s contested.” Despite having Surtain already on him, Adams will definitely see extra coverage whenever he is on the field.

Adams is the Raiders’ second-leading receiver behind Mack Hollins. Hackett said a part of this adjustment is the new system he is playing. “It’s a different system, for sure. I know they want to get him the ball. Why wouldn’t you.”

Hackett will get his toughest challenge thus far in his young coaching career, which is attempting to cover Adams.
