Maxx Crosby, a defensive end with the Las Vegas Raiders, was taken in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft with low expectations. Four years later, he is one of the league’s top defenders. The crazy thing is that Crosby was doubtful before the game since his fiancé was on baby watch. He traveled and gave it his all on the field for his family and proved to the NFL that he deserves to be mentioned in discussions about being in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.
Maxx Crosby playing at an All-Pro level for the Raiders
In their Monday night matchup, Crosby once again demonstrated his dominance over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders’ defense had Patrick Mahomes in a third and long in their opening defensive series. A clear passing down indicated that Crosby was ready to attack. He did as Crosby was able to bulldoze his way to Mahomes and sack him for a 13-yard loss after a series of maneuvers on the Chiefs’ offensive line. In addition to being a top-tier pass rusher, Crosby is also a top-tier run defender. The following drive, he swam past the guard and tackled Clyde Edwards-Helaire for no gain. Crosby sacked Mahomes for the second time in the second quarter by beating the Chiefs’ offensive line once more. He became a bother, and the Chiefs sent extra help to his side as a result.
With four total tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits, Crosby had another productive game. Crosby now has the league lead in tackles for loss with 11, four more than the second-place player, according to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press. Crosby, who entered the contest with four sacks on the year, now shares the league lead in sacks with three other players after recording two in their defeat to the Chiefs.
It’s time for the rest of the defense to step up as Crosby continues to be a monster for the Raiders and a nightmare for offensive coordinators. Yes, Crosby is excellent and playing at a remarkable high level. But it won’t be enough for this defense. Crosby needs assistance if the Raiders are going to turn this season around after their bye week.
