Raiders WR Davante Adams To Josh Jacobs During Contract Saga: “You Do What You Gotta Do”

Contract negotiations between Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders didn’t yield the results that many fans were hoping for. The All-Pro running back remains on the outside looking in. All the while, his teammate, another All-Pro in Davante Adams, understands the gravity of the situation.

Davante Adams understands the predicament that Josh Jacobs finds himself in…

During an interview on the Dan Patrick Show, No. 17 was candid about his support and comprehension of what’s dominating headlines right now. Let’s face it, even though rookies reported to Henderson this week, the only thing that the NFL world continues to talk about is musings surrounding the running back situation league-wide. As far as Jacobs goes, it turns out that he was ready to sign on the dotted line—only to be left at the altar, so to speak.

As our own Eduardo Razo wrote, the situation came to a head at Raiders HQ.

NFL Insider Tom Pelissero revealed that Jacobs was ready to put the pen to paper as time passed. The Raiders star was in his car outside the team’s facility with teammate Maxx Crosby at the deadline, ready to sign if it got done.

Despite that development, Adams acknowledged that Jacobs is in a situation he’s all too familiar with: “I just told him to keep his head [up], you know. This is my 10th year now, and I’ve been through the contract process a total of three times now. It’s a lot easier when you first come in. Once you start doing your thing on the field, it makes things a little bit more interesting come contract time. So basically, I just told him I understand where he’s coming from. You do what you’ve got to do in order to feel your worth. You can’t just do something that your heart is not in.”

What is Jacobs worth to the Raiders moving forward?

What’s interesting to note are Adams’ words about “worth.”

It was reported that Jacobs was looking for just compensation. He wasn’t looking to reset the market, as some fans likely feared. Whether you believe that investing in running backs is smart or not, you cannot deny that Jacobs played his heart out last year. He deserves to get paid; whether that’s the Raiders or not, well, that’s another question entirely.

As the holder of a few Raiders rushing records now, Josh Jacobs needs to watch out for himself. Davante Adams, too, believes that, adding, “At the end of the day, if it doesn’t make sense to you, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”
