If you recall, rumors involving the Las Vegas Raiders and Davante Adams once seemed ludicrous. Now? Well, not so much.
All offseason, Adams was consistently linked to hearsay and conjecture that was often dismissed. At one point, someone from Adams’ own camp shot down the notion that DA17 was trying to make his way out. In case you forgot, playing for the Raiders was a childhood dream for Adams, and while that’s been fulfilled, the man wants to win. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Josh McDaniels’ squad is capable of that. The Raiders can’t play the Denver Broncos every week; if they did, McDaniels’ team would be perennial contenders.
What’s going to happen with the Raiders and Davante Adams?
Back to reality for a second: if the Raiders screw the pooch, so to speak, against the Los Angeles Chargers, then what? Is it reasonable to write off the 2023 season for McDaniels and Co.? For his part, Adams is doing his part and then some. He’s had 25 receptions, 322 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Despite averaging nearly 13 yards per reception (12.9), Adams can’t do everything. If you’re in his shoes, when “is it enough?”
NFL Execs Question Raiders On Ngakoue Exit, Renfrow Usage
Judging from Adams’ words following Sunday night, the future Hall of Famer isn’t mincing words anymore.
“It’s not my mentality to sit here and try to take all season and figure it out. You use these early games like this to establish the identity, and we are not doing things the right way to establish a winning culture early in the season. So, we’ve got to do something to turn that around.” Basic translation? Davante Adams wants to win now, not five years from now.
Whether that’s the plan for McDaniels and Dave Ziegler is another question entirely. Are the Raiders really trying to win if you’re settling for field goals instead of going all in for a win?
