The 3-3 record seems so long ago for the Las Vegas Raiders, doesn’t it? After an embarrassing loss to the Chicago Bears over a week ago, the Silver and Black did themselves no favors, losing 26-14 to the Detroit Lions on “Monday Night Football.”
Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels’ offense only mustered 157 total yards against the Lions. Furthermore, with this game being on primetime, many NFL media members caught a glimpse of what Raider Nation has dealt with for the past season and a half. Because of this, some analysts want Davante Adams out of Las Vegas. One of them is ESPN’s Robert Griffin III.
Why are pundits like “RG3” wanting Adams to go elsewhere? Adams’ stat line on Monday serves as the catalyst, along with the lack of faith that comes with Jimmy Garoppolo and Josh McDaniels calling the shots. The 30-year-old’s performance in the loss to Detroit was one of the worst in his career.
It’s another week of frustrating news surrounding the Raiders, so let’s dive into the latest.
RG3: The Raiders need to do Davante Adams a ‘solid’ and ‘trade him’
In the last few weeks, the six-time Pro Bowler has aired his frustration over the Las Vegas offense. Adams has only registered one game this 2023 season of over 100 receiving yards. Outside of the veteran’s performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the former Green Bay Packers star has been nonexistent.
When a team has a player of Adams’ caliber, they need more than one game over 100 receiving yards through seven outings. If McDaniels cannot figure out how to get No. 17 the ball, Griffin believes they need to trade him. After cameras caught him visibly frustrated, the NFL media’s push for the Raiders to trade Adams is beginning.
“Raiders should do Davante Adams a solid and trade him,” Griffin wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He deserves it. He came there to play for his favorite team. They got rid of the QB he came there to play with, and he has one catch tonight. Don’t subject him to any more of this dysfunction.”
Even though Raiders fans have differing opinions on Derek Carr, he frequently got Adams the ball. The three-time All-Pro receiver registered over 1,500 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in 2022 with the Silver and Black. If McDaniels wanted an upgrade over Carr, Garoppolo isn’t it. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has struggled, to say the least.
Adams likely isn’t leaving before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. However, the seeds can be planted for a move in the offseason. Las Vegas has no quarterback right now, as “Jimmy G” isn’t the answer, and Aidan O’Connell is an unproven rookie. The Raiders receiver will likely want out, considering the prime years of his career are dwindling.
Davante Adams had one of the worst games of his career in the Raiders loss to Lions
Why do “RG3” and other NFL pundits want Adams off the Raiders? Well, look at the production he had against the Lions for one. The Fresno State product had one catch for 11 receiving yards. That is inexcusable for a player of Adams’ stature.
Furthermore, the Associated Press’ Josh Dubow highlighted on X that the performance against Detroit was the second-worst game of Adams’ career. There’s only one game worse in his career, and that came last season against the New Orleans Saints when he had three receiving yards on one catch.
So, what do you say, Raiders fans? Is the entire Adams situation going to reach an inevitable trade in the offseason, or does the current regime find a franchise quarterback to keep him around? He has a contract until 2026, so it will be interesting to see what he and the franchise decide to do. Buckle up; this saga has only just begun.
