Raiders News: Did the team get the Tyree Wilson pick right?

How Confident Are You In The Raiders Justifying The Tyree Wilson Selection?

It’s been a rough rookie year for Tyree Wilson, with the season almost over. As fans, how confident are you in the Las Vegas Raiders as an organization justifying that pick? Will it go by the wayside—Clelin Ferrell 2.0?

Let’s get serious for a second, Raider Nation. This is a safe space.

The numbers don’t lie for Tyree Wilson and the Raiders

1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 10 solo tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, 128 snaps in defending the run; oppositely, he’s logged 187 in pass rush. The publication credits Wilson with 11 stops and nine total pressures. It does seem like we’re splitting atoms when analyzing Wilson; he just hasn’t been good for a few different reasons. However, labeling him a bust so soon could be shortsighted, right?

“Film analysts” will tell you he’s improving each game, but from a fan’s perspective, what are you seeing?

Well, we took our case to the readers, and as always, they didn’t mince words in these early responses.

The Raiders still have time this season…

Let’s be clear: we’re simply gauging what you, as fans, think right now. The fact is, there’s still football left to play—five games, to be exact. Now, we also have to be reasonable with expectations; to think Tyree Wilson will suddenly match the productivity of, say, Maxx Crosby or even Malcolm Koonce would be naive. Still, Wilson can show something that would give fans hope—something to build off of going into the 2024 season.

Or, there could be another scenario playing out. One that that reader above mentioned: could Wilson go the way of Clelin Ferrell? Ferrell’s selection haunts the Raiders to this day, especially when you take into account all of the talent that was left on the board.

For now, let’s see how Wilson does in these final games. Be sure to let us know your thoughts at our poll conversation on X.

  1. I believe Max Crosby made the comment{paraphrasing} that Wilson is learning he has to bring it everyday work hard every day. That is always a warning to me that he got
by on sheer talent alone in college and is not self motivated. So far not a great pick.

With rookies its a little easier to gauge and determine in their first year if they will amount to anything worth keeping. Yes there are a few exceptions but they are rare.
Clelin with the Niners is still not worth a crap.

Tyree has a few games left to prove he is worth a crap especially for a first round pick (that dont even play as good as a 7th round pick).
I keep hoping & praying he will see the light and make something of himself worthy of keeping.
Sadly I dont think it will happen as the temptation of all the money he received has turned him into a pumpkin. Something that looks good sitting there until it rots then you have to get rid of it.

Prove me wrong Tyree. Prove everyone wrong. Because right now you are the one thats wrong.

They couldn’t pick Carter because of the Ruggs incident. Notice how they immediately cut Teamer after the DUI.

Rashan Gary took 2 years to develop. There’s still hope.

  4. Tyree Wilson is a bust. What a waste of a draft pick So was the other d lineman we drafted. That’s why the raiders are struggling. We keep drafting poorly.

  5. Not sure what that means, couldn’t pick him according to some homers on the internet? We had no problem with dog abuser, super sketchy gun toting coach Pierce…we should have got Carter, we should have got Carter. Jacobs crashed his car drunk and we kept him. We should have got Carter. If Tyreek is the darling of the NFL, we should have drafted Carter.
