Quarterback. That’s the priority for the Las Vegas Raiders, but there are different routes the Silver and Black can take to improve under center. One way is via trade; all eyes are on whether a move for Justin Fields will happen.
The Chicago Bears have a decision to make about whether they want to use the No. 1 overall pick on USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye. There’s also the possibility that the Bears keep Fields and entertain the idea of trading the top pick for more draft selections to bolster the team.
Nonetheless, for the Raiders’ sake, let’s say Chicago is willing to listen to offers for Fields. What would an offer from the Silver and Black look like? Let’s delve into the hypothetical.
How much draft capital would Justin Fields cost?
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay wrote about what the Raiders could offer Chicago that would allow them to land Fields. For Kay, Las Vegas would only need to send a 2024 third-round pick for the 24-year-old.
Additionally, should Champ Kelly keep the job permanently as general manager, he has a connection to the Bears’ organization. So, if the Raiders need to have an inside track to having their offer accepted for the Ohio State product, they have one in Kelly.
“The Bears have found themselves in the unenviable situation of having to choose between retaining incumbent starting quarterback Justin Fields or shipping him off and forging ahead with a prospect they can land with the No. 1 overall pick,” Kay wrote. “If Chicago opts for the latter strategy, the Raiders would be wise to capitalize on Fields’ availability…
“Fields would benefit from having a new regime in place who could tailor the offense and the roster to his strengths. It would be a perfect place for him to get a fresh start and find success, allowing the Raiders to get a potential franchise quarterback at a cheap cost.”
Is the Chicago Bears QB an improvement?
Fields brings a lot to the table as a dual-threat option at the quarterback position. Moreover, the Bears’ current signal-caller exhibits a higher potential than Aidan O’Connell. He has showcased glimpses of being a franchise quarterback, but one persistent challenge during his time with Chicago has been maintaining consistency.
In the 2023 NFL season, Fields achieved a QB rating of 100 or above in just three games. He also recorded three more games with ratings between 87 and 99. However, Fields posted a passer rating of 61 or lower in four contests. To secure the Bears quarterback, the Raiders must build an offensive strategy that enables him to maintain consistency.
