While the Las Vegas Raiders continue to look for an offensive coordinator, maybe Chip Kelly could be of some help. Or, should they stay away from the former NFL flameout?
With Antonio Pierce fully entrenched as head coach, the rest of the coaching staff remains in doubt. The top position is particularly uncertain since Bo Hardegree was recently relieved of his duties. The question is, who will be the one to get the keys from Pierce this offseason?
Well, believe it or not, maybe the former Philadelphia Eagles head honcho could provide some assistance. He’s certainly come a long way from his NFL days since taking over UCLA’s football program in 2018.
Raiders insider believes there’s a “mystery candidate” in the mix…
Hondo Carpenter, of Sports Illustrated, mentioned that someone flying under the radar could end up being the guy for the Raiders. However, it wasn’t until Mike Florio (a favorite among the Raider Nation faithful) specifically named Kelly as someone at the top of the rumor mill.
“There’s one team Kelly might specifically be targeting—the Raiders. That’s the word percolating out of Mobile, Alabama, where plenty of NFL folks are gathered for Senior Bowl practices.”
Here’s the thing: there’s no way of knowing whether Kelly is on the Raiders’ radar or vice versa. There could certainly be someone in play for Las Vegas that no one’s talking about, but that’s anyone’s guess, really.
Be that as it may, the Raiders could be the perfect opportunity for Chip Kelly. Well, assuming he’s eyeing an NFL comeback, obviously. If you take into account Pierce’s background as a defensive coach, an offensive coordinator might have a chance to fully implement their vision—in theory, of course. Then, you also add in Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, and the 13th overall pick; Kelly could come into a remarkable situation. Still, whoever the Raiders go with could be anyone.
At least Kelly wouldn’t be able to get rid of any players like he did in Philly.
