The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to hire Rich Scangarello as the quarterback’s coach. Reception to the hiring is less than stellar among fans, but why?
The coaching carousel has been odd this time around for the Silver and Black. Once it became official that Antonio Pierce was staying on full-time, the offseason focus shifted to rounding out the rest of the staff. Luckily, Patrick Graham is staying on as defensive coordinator, but the rest of the hirings have received mixed receptions, especially Luke Getsy taking over the offense once Kliff Kingsbury backed out. The latest hiring of Scangarello isn’t exactly inspiring.
That statement certainly holds true if we’re talking about social media.
Raiders fans react to Rich Scangarello coming on board…
According to league insider Tom Pelissero, the Raiders have indeed hired Scangarello as Pierce adds some finishing touches to his coaching staff. While position coach hirings rarely rile feathers among fans, the recent string of coaching names associated with the Raiders aren’t uplifting.
In classic knee-jerk reaction style, Raider Nation made their thoughts known.
Great hire! Doesn’t matter that he’s been fired 6 times because RAAAAAAAAIDERS! WE GOING TO DA BOWL AND WINNING IT! ONE MORE TIME, RAAAAAAAIDERS?? https://t.co/f6xa4pUtMz

Luke Getsy and Rich Scangarello got to be the worst OC/QB Coach combo to develop a young QB. It’s a shame how bad the Raiders offensive coaching staff is turning out considering how their defensive coaching staff is looking like one of the best in the NFL.

Lmaooo these replies are so unserious… I’m not saying the position coaches don’t matter, they do, but the QB coach is not going to make or break a guy in someone else’s offense.

For what it’s worth, Scangarello has roots with the Raiders; he was an offensive quality control coach and an assistant QB coach. His experience and run in the NFL over the last few years haven’t been memorable, to say the least. His lone campaign as an offensive coordinator (2021) with the Denver Broncos was atrocious. On top of that, his years as quarterback’s coach with the San Francisco 49ers (2017–18, 2021) don’t scream “elite.”
First the Raiders tried hiring Kliff Kingsbury, who worked with Caleb Williams.
Now they’re potentially hiring Rich Scangarello, who also… worked with Caleb Williams.
Maybe they’re trying to tell us something. https://t.co/Y4xrC4IDMz

For now, we’ll see what Scangarello brings to the Raiders in terms of conjecture surrounding Justin Fields and Caleb Williams.
