As the Las Vegas Raiders get ready for Week 2’s preseason matchup, a familiar face is added to the quarterback room: Nathan Peterman, who spent both the ’20 and ’21 seasons in Sin City.
Peterman, a seven-year vet, has history with both the Silver and Black and the scheme he’ll be part of. After two seasons in Las Vegas, Peterman went to play under Luke Getsy, the first-year Raiders’ offensive coordinator, with the Chicago Bears during the ’22 and ’23 seasons.
With the Bears, Peterman completed 14 of his 25 pass attempts for one touchdown with one interception. All 25 passing attempts came during his ’22 campaign, where the Pittsburgh alum earned a passing grade of 68.0 via Pro Football Focus.
Peterman will compete with quarterbacks Anthony Brown and Carter Bradley for the emergency quarterback role heading into the new season.
Las Vegas Raiders waive Keelan Doss to make room for Nathan Peterman
When Michael Gallup suddenly retired after signing a one-year deal with Las Vegas this offseason, the team responded by welcoming Keelan Doss back to the Raiders.
Three weeks later, the Silver and Black have decided to move in a different direction.
Las Vegas’ change of heart is likely due to the superb play of receivers D.J. Turner, Kristian Wilkerson and Ramel Keyton through training camp. During the Raiders’ first preseason contest, Turner hauled in the team’s only receiving touchdown to prove he’s more than a special teams player.
At this point in time, the three aforementioned receivers lead the way for the last available spots in the position group. The big question is, will the Raiders elect to carry five or six receivers?
With D.J. Turner doubling as a returner, carrying six receivers seems to be the answer. The remaining preseason contests will give a more concrete answer, however.
Speedster Jalen Guyton is not out of the running, either. Current Raiders general manager Tom Telesco added Guyton to the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2019, where the two spent five years together. It’s no coincidence that Guyton joined the Raiders during Telesco’s first year in Las Vegas.
