Unless something dramatic takes place between now and Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders will be welcoming Justin Fields as the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Russell Wilson might still be a factor.
Say what you will about the Steelers, but they’re sitting in second place in the AFC North with a 3-2 record. In contrast to the Raiders, they hold a tie for the top spot in their division. However, whether this is due to Fields’ performance is up for debate. He’s not exactly lighting up, but, in his defense, he’s doing just enough—additionally, he’s not turning the ball over with reckless interceptions. He stands in stark contrast to a certain Raiders quarterback, but I’m getting off topic. So, what about Wilson?
Via official Steelers media, Wilson made it known that if called upon, he’ll be ready to go against the Raiders. In case you weren’t too familiar with the situation, Wilson has yet to make his debut for Pittsburgh. Fields has been the primary quarterback, while Kyle Allen serves as the backup. Wilson, for his part, believes he and his health are up to par now.
“I feel confident that I’ll be ready to play and play at a high level. I think we’re being really smart, too, and trying to understand exactly how I feel. I’ve played a lot of football games, have been in a lot of moments, I don’t fear them. Getting ready to go and rock and roll.”
Wilson had been dealing with a calf injury, which he made worse right before the season, leading to Fields taking over. As far as the Raiders are concerned, Wilson took first-team snaps at practice this week. Obviously, Wilson is healthy again, and depending on how the action unfolds, might the Silver and Black have to deal with the nine-time Pro Bowl signal-caller?
