Despite an abysmal season, the Las Vegas Raiders did something right when they drafted tight end Brock Bowers. His stellar rookie year continued on Sunday.
Say what you will about current Raiders general manager Tom Telesco, but the man knows how to draft. The Raiders have assembled arguably the best draft class in over a decade this year. Bowers leads that crop, maintaining his dominant rookie run against the Miami Dolphins.
The Raiders could have a special talent in Brock Bowers
The Silver and Black have had some historically bad first round picks this century, but Bowers, by all accounts, will finally break that dry spell. What’s even more impressive about No. 89 is that he’s working with a makeshift quarterback room that includes Gardner Minshew II, Aidan O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder. Imagine what will happen when the Raiders actually land a franchise signal-caller.
When it was all said and done, Bowers had hauled in 13 receptions—an important side note: that is the most catches by a rookie tight end in league history. You can add a touchdown to that performance; that is his third of the year.
Say what you will about the Raiders offense as a whole, but the fact is, Bowers has essentially carried it to the best of his ability thus far. Even in a season where touchdowns have been scarce, his three touchdowns have been crucial. Though Bowers himself has said that he wants wins more than anything, the rookie more than deserves his flowers. When it’s all said and done, we could indeed be looking at the next Offensive Rookie of the Year.
