Fans of the Las Vegas Raiders will need to stock up on popcorn due to the potential number of upcoming moves. The first step will either be a new general manager getting hired or a new head coach. From there, the offseason will be in full swing: free agency and the NFL draft. Right now, Raider Nation is drinking the Ben Johnson “Kool-Aid” at the moment, but there needs to be a “plan B” just in case; Pete Carroll might be your answer.
After a legendary run with the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll finds himself a free agent of sorts. After interviewing with the Chicago Bears as well as the Raiders, Carroll is indeed a viable option for the Silver and Black.
Pete Carroll brings championship pedigree…
Marshawn Lynch, Kam Chancellor, and Russell Wilson are just a few of the names associated with Carroll. His track record is among the greats when it comes to producing legends. He led the “Legion of Boom,” the face of one of the greatest defensive units ever assembled. Nonetheless, his leadership led to two Super Bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015.This shows the San Francisco native understands how to succeed in this league.
Additionally, the former Seahawks coach assisted in the selection of exceptional players throughout his career. Carroll drafted Tariq Woolen, Kenneth Walker, and Zach Charbonnet outside of the first round. In other words, with Carroll at the helm, Raider fans have no major concerns. Draft picks will bring value to the team; something that Raider Nation has only recently become accustomed to thanks to Tom Telesco.
Should the Raiders look elsewhere?
While hiring a championship-caliber coach would be exciting, this is in the past. The 73-year-old will turn 74 in 2025 and cannot provide longevity. One of the main issues with the franchise is the inability to create continuity with coaches. Obviously, players will respect Carroll, but he will not coach more than three years.
If he is a head coach for one full season, the Bay Area native will be the oldest coach in league history. For that reason, Las Vegas should look in a younger direction.
Young coaches are increasing and showing promise. Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and DeMeco Ryans: Are you seeing the pattern here? Ben Johnson is 38 years old and would be perfect for the job.
