Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers

Jakobi Meyers: Raiders Have Their Stud Wideout After Impressive ’24 Season

Although Josh McDaniels was fired by the Las Vegas Raiders less than two full seasons ago, it feels like ages since he was on the sideline. During his time in Las Vegas, he made several moves to bring in former players of his from the New England Patriots. One of those was a wide receiver, Jakobi Meyers.

As an undrafted free agent, Meyers carved out a nice role in New England. After his rookie contract expired, he hit free agency, and the Raiders scooped him up before the 2023 season. To be honest, Meyers has encountered some challenging quarterback play during his tenure with the Raiders. Even still, he’s put together two impressive seasons. Let’s take a closer look at his performance in 2024.

Jakobi Meyers’ Best Raiders Moments In 2024

Statistically, the best game of Meyers’ season came in the final regular season game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Meyers caught nine of the 10 passes thrown his way, racking up 123 receiving yards in the process. He also had a touchdown early in the game off this beautiful double move. That’s how you go out with a bang, folks.

Meyers enjoyed playing against the AFC West, it seems. The Raiders targeted him a whopping 15 times during their Week 12 loss to the Denver Broncos. He caught 10 of those and turned them into 121 yards.

There was one other game during the season in which Meyers surpassed 100 receiving yards. That came two weeks before that Denver game, when the Raiders hit the road to take on the Cincinnati Bengals just before their bye week. Meyers received 11 targets and caught eight of them, accumulating 105 yards in the process.

A Closer Look…

Considering everything, Meyers had an exceptional season. Looking at his career as a whole, this year stands alone among the rest. In total, Meyers recorded 1,027 receiving yards on 87 receptions, good for 11.8 yards per reception. He also added four touchdowns to go along with that.

Meyers set career highs in both receptions and receiving yards. His jump in production could have been helped by the Raiders trading Davante Adams, as Meyers took on a bigger role in his absence, and his 129 targets were the most he’s seen up to this point in his career. Regardless, the fact that he put together the best season of his career with Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew, and Desmond Ridder throwing him the ball is remarkable.

His consistency was a key factor that contributed to the quarterbacks’ confidence in targeting him. Meyers dropped just one pass on the season, the first time in his career he’s seen a total that low. Meyers was a reliable option when Las Vegas needed a first down. He moved the chains 52 times, also a career high.

As a whole, it’s difficult not to be impressed with Meyers this year. He emerged as an extremely consistent, talented option, especially during the second half of the season. With just one year remaining on his contract, he seems to be playing his way into an eventual extension in Las Vegas.
