Recent polling of Las Vegas Raiders fans on Twitter/X indicates that many are delaying their opinions on whether the newly acquired quarterback, Geno Smith, significantly improves their team.
Smith is a solid upgrade for the Silver and Black—did everyone forget who the Raiders had under center last season? However, the extent to which he “makes a significant impact” is subjective. If you’re asking whether he makes them a Super Bowl contender, the answer is probably no. But if you’re asking whether he makes them more competitive in the AFC West, then yes, he could.
The new signal-caller for the Raiders showed in Seattle that he can run an efficient offense and make plays with both his arm and legs. If the Raiders are looking for a bridge QB or stopgap option, Geno offers reliability—meanwhile, they groom their “quarterback of the future.” However, this is based on the assumption that they will draft a quarterback with high aspirations this year. Geno’s good, but not at the level of a QB who can single-handedly elevate a team.
In terms of the AFC West, you could argue that he’s the third-best or even fourth-best QB in the division. Still, he’ll make them competitive for a playoff spot but wouldn’t instantly make them a contender. To make a significant impact, the Raiders may still require a top-tier quarterback. Regardless of how you feel, nearly half of Raiders fans who took part in our poll are reserving judgment as of today. What say you? Well, weigh in via our live poll on Twitter/X today.
