Raiders News: Jalen Milroe, NFL Draft, and more.

Jalen Milroe Rumors: The Raiders Quarterback Of The Future?

It’s draft week and the rumors are hotter than ever. With franchises narrowing down their draft boards, the anticipation is growing thick. The Las Vegas Raiders, according to NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler, would love to draft Jalen Milroe. What are your thoughts, Raider Nation?

“The Raiders are on Milroe’s radar because they have Geno Smith,” Fowler said. “Vegas would be a team he would love to go to.”

Despite being a prolific player in college, the Alabama quarterback is a projected backup for now. He will need a couple of seasons under his belt learning the offense and adjusting to professional talent. He’s a remarkable athlete but needs to develop as a passer. In 2024, the quarterback rushed for 20 touchdowns and threw 16 passing touchdowns.

Where Can the Raiders Draft Jalen Milroe?

Before April, most were saying the dual-threat would be taken in the third round of the NFL Draft. However, there are signs showing that this narrative is not true. Milroe will be attending the draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Typically, only players projected as first-round talents attend the draft in person.

The situation poses an issue for Las Vegas because number six is far too rich for a backup quarterback. If the 22-year-old is a target before the following Raiders pick (No. 38), the team will need to trade up. However, it is highly likely that he will be available at the 38th spot.

Why Picking Jalen Milroe Makes Sense

Fans hope Shedeur Sanders is the sixth pick of the draft. While he is a better quarterback than Milroe, the Alabama quarterback has a higher ceiling. Sanders would only need one season to progress into a starting ball thrower at the professional level. However, Milroe could be one of the most exhilarating players ever.

His player comparison is a faster Jalen Hurts. He possesses a strong arm and is most dangerous when he is in scramble mode. History shows offensive coordinator Chip Kelly loves a quarterback that can run. He has worked with the likes of Colin Kaepernick and Michael Vick.

The Timeline Makes Sense

Kelly typically partners with an elite talent under center, even though he has worked with quarterbacks with average athleticism. Geno Smith is a solid athlete, but not even comparable to the 2025 draft prospect. Milroe finished his draft combine with a 99 athleticism grade. His performance was the best of any prospect in the entire draft.

Additionally, Pete Carroll was signed to a three-year contract this offseason. Smith will be the starter for two seasons and the young star can take over in Year 3. The timeline fits perfectly to add a developmental quarterback who can grow.
