Jakorian Bennett was in need of a running mate opposite of him at the cornerback position in Sin City. The Las Vegas Raiders gave Bennett that running mate, selecting Iowa State’s Darien Porter.
Porter is one of the more intriguing players selected during the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite playing cornerback for three seasons, the 24-year-old defensive back has a mere seven starts at the position under his belt.
There’s no built up resume for Porter at cornerback.
Be that as it may, it’s easy to see why team’s fell in love with the thought of adding the 6-foot-4 defensive back to their roster. On top of his towering height, Porter’s 33 1/8″ arm length puts him in the 93-percentile while his 80″ wingspan puts him in the 95-percentile. Add in his 4.30 40-yard time, and you get a built-in-a-lab prospect.
And, even better, Porter’s tape at cornerback shows a lot to like.
This is a physical, instinctive corner with adept ball skills. During his ’24 campaign, Porter was able to break up two passes and take an additional three the other way.
The physicality is on full display through Porter’s tape, too. No doubt, that’s one of the qualities that Raiders head coach Pete Carroll found greatly attractive in Porter as a cornerback.
However, there are negatives to the Iowa State alum’s game, too. One such is his tackling form that will have to be cleaned up. Another is his inability to shed blocks and therefore become a factor on running downs.
You’ll get to see all of this in Darien Porter’s full film breakdown and scouting report, found here:
