As far as additions by way of free agency go, the Las Vegas Raiders didn’t do too much this offseason. Safety Jeremy Chinn and linebacker Elandon Roberts are the newcomers of note, but both serve as replacements to starting-caliber players lost in free agency.
In fact, Sin city’s football team waved goodbye to both of their starting safeties from 2024, as well as all three of the top-three linebackers on their depth chart.
In the meantime, the Raiders continue to have an abundance of cap space available to them. And, as fate would have it, an opportunity seems to be presenting itself to use that money well.
Is Las Vegas’ biggest splash in this year’s free agency right around the corner?
Looking at the Silver and Black’s roster, linebacker stands out as the clear-cut weakest unit on the team. However, the Cincinnati Bengals may gift the Raiders a can’t-miss opportunity to change that at the hands of veteran Germaine Pratt’s possible release.
Pratt requested a trade back in mid-February, looking to move onto the next chapter of his football career. Unfortunately for Cincinnati, they’ve been unable to work out a deal with any team up to this point. As such, speculation of an impending Pratt release has been spread by multiple outlets–albeit, it remains speculation at this point in time.
Pratt has started in all 17 contests in back-to-back seasons, recording a combined two sacks and four interceptions through his ’23 and ’24 campaigns. The 28-year-old linebacker has managed to break up an additional four pass breakups during this timeframe.
This past season, Pratt recorded the seventh-most tackles among all linebackers league-wide with 107. His 53 stops also ranked seventh-most at his position.
Pratt’s release would give the Raiders the opportunity to upgrade big at a position of need.
