Let’s get you caught up with all of the latest musings around the NFL, courtesy of The Ramble. The incoming rookies are the talk of the town right now; Ashton Jeanty signs, Shedeur Sanders has a long way to reach the top, and a historic deal for a second round selection.
The Raiders have their man…
After being selected with the sixth overall pick, you could make the case that Jeanty is the new face of the franchise. That’s certainly the case on offense though last year’s phenom Brock Bowers might have something to say about that.
Regardless, Jeanty signed a four-year contract worth nearly $36 million, according to the NFL Network. The new regime spearheaded by general manager John Spytek has not wasted time in making their impression on the Raiders roster. The offense, alongside Jeanty, will feature a new crop of weapons. Names you should become familiar with; Jack Bech and Tommy Mellott will join in on the fun.
Let’s face it, Jeanty’s arrival surely gives Raiders fans hope after a disastrous 2024 season that resulted in a complete organizational overhaul. Speaking of disastrous, Shedeur Sanders is facing an impossible task in Cleveland.
A long way to the top in Cleveland…
Raiders owner Tom Brady has publicly disclosed that he told Sanders to embrace the doubt. Nonetheless, you’d be hard-pressed to believe that it is the other quarterback that the Cleveland Browns selected, Dillon Gabriel, that should feel disrespected. Despite being selected two rounds later than Gabriel, it’s Sanders that’s gaining all the attention.
But is he the better signal-caller? As it stands, Sanders is looking up at Gabriel, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett. The latter two figuring to be in competition for starting snaps this upcoming season. Before he can even sniff Flacco (a Super Bowl winning QB) or Pickett (a former first-round pick), Sanders has to prove he can outperform Gabriel. That won’t be easy. Gabriel won numerous awards in the Big Ten including Offensive and Quarterback of the Year; both are prestigious awards.
One rookie that won’t face nearly as much opposition is the Houston Texans’ newest wideout, Jayden Higgins.
The Texans wasted no time with Jayden Higgins
The Texans, looking to remain a playoff contender in the AFC, wasted no time in securing their second round selection. Higgins’ agent, Chris Cabott of Equity Sports let it be known that his client signed a four-year deal that’s fully guaranteed worth up to $11.7 million. That’s some serious change for an unproven player coming out of the round. In fact, Higgins is the first player to come out of that round with a fully guaranteed deal.
With Higgins signed, the Texans feature an offense with the likes of Nico Collins, John Metchie III, and Christian Kirk. There are going to be plenty of rookie wideouts to keep an eye on this upcoming NFL season.
