Raiders News: Jah Joyner, and more.

Look Out, “Hatred” Is Fueling Las Vegas Raiders Rookie Jah Joyner

One of the strengths of this Las Vegas Raiders team is their defensive line–anchored by the likes of Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins. However, one undrafted rookie addition is poised to make a significant impact and infuse the team with an additional level of welcomed violence.

As most surely noticed during the draft, Raiders general manager John Spytek opted to favor the offense. In fact, seven of the 11 drafted players this year were offensive players. As a result, Spytek has been highly active in adding undrafted rookies who’ll contribute on defense. Among those is Jah Joyner, the former Minnesota pass rusher.

The Raiders require all the pass rush assistance they can afford, and Joyner provides it. In his last couple of seasons, Joyner recorded 12 sacks. While recently speaking with The Mirror U.S. Sport, Joyner provided some insight into what motivates him, and if we’re honest, opposing AFC West quarterbacks better look out.

“I actually wanted to be a quarterback, honestly. Everyone does. But I couldn’t play quarterback, and that just got me mad. So every time I see a quarterback on the field, it makes me mad. My hatred for quarterbacks was one of the major reasons I found success early.”

What do the Las Vegas Raiders have in Jah Joyner?

Joyner has a strong drive to make an impact, regardless of the opponent he faces. In terms of specs, Joyner has notable size and arm length for the defensive end position. His speed is also nothing to scoff at, having run a 4.6 in his 40-yard dash. If you’re accounting for Joyner’s measurables, potential, and attitude, it’s clear why head coach Pete Carroll would want him as the USC legend establishes an identity and culture for the Silver and Black.

Bleacher Report originally scouted him, touting Joyner as a potential fifth-round selection. If that’s the case, the Raiders might’ve gotten a steal this offseason.
