Regardless of your opinions as a Las Vegas Raiders fan about Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, it is significant that the Silver and Black’s premier player, Maxx Crosby, holds him in high regard.
In sports, we all know that iron sharpens iron. It’s no different in football, so it makes sense that Crosby benefits by chasing down the NFL’s best quarterbacks every week. Among those signal-callers, you have the three-time Super Bowl MVP in Mahomes.
Raiders vs. Chiefs: A Lopsided Affair (So Far)
While appearing on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Crosby alluded to the fact that in order for the Raiders to take the next step, you have to get past the Chiefs.
“It’s ultimate respect when it comes to them. They’ve earned it. They’ve won three Super Bowls; they’ve got the best quarterback in football,” Crosby said. It’s a little humorous to hear the face of the Raiders organization heap so much praise on the Chiefs. Well, from a fan’s perspective it surely is, considering the disdain that Raider Nation has for the perennial Super Bowl contender.
In terms of Crosby and Mahomes as a matchup, No. 98 was quite honest. “But for us, as a pass rusher, I’m going against the best quarterback. For me, I believe I’m the best pass rusher in the world, so every time we match up, it’s a match made in heaven,” Crosby continued. Historically, the Raiders’ pass rusher has recorded six sacks against the Chiefs’ superstar.
Sacks are nice, sure. But Las Vegas has only defeated Kansas City a grand total of two times during Crosby’s career. With Pete Carroll now in charge in Sin City, Crosby may have the crucial element needed to begin shifting the balance of this uneven rivalry.
