Raiders News: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and more.

Raiders owner Tom Brady, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes—The Duo We Didn’t See Coming

Las Vegas Raiders fans will probably gag at this, but it turns out their owner, Tom Brady, has a close relationship with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Sorry, Raider Nation.

It’s probably not a stretch to say that Brady hasn’t fully won over the fans. In case people have forgotten, No. 12 ripped the heart out of Jon Gruden’s Raiders more than a generation ago—as a result, they went down a black hole (no pun intended). Ironically, Brady’s addition to the Raiders is expected to help reset the team’s culture. While Pete Carroll and John Spytek play lead roles in this transformation, Brady is also an important part of the effort.

Obviously, there are certain limits and restrictions to what Brady is capable of doing for now. He remains under contract with Fox Sports as a broadcaster, but his situation changes outside of that realm. Though he insists that he has little sway in team decisions, you’d be hard-pressed to believe that Brady’s presence isn’t felt.

As far as Mahomes goes, there’s no love lost for the Chiefs superstar from the Silver and Black. Whether it’s from Raider Nation or Maxx Crosby, Mahomes is on the “hit list,” so to speak.

Patrick Mahomes speaks on Raiders minority owner…

So if he’s best buddies with Brady, what does that say about the Raiders’ minority owner? Perhaps it’s a bit tone-deaf, but then again, he’s not Al Davis. Can you imagine the “Maverick” hanging out with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid? Either way, Mahomes shed some light on what exactly his relationship with Brady is on the Up & Adams Show this week.

“I’ve actually talked to Tom a good amount this offseason. It’s cool that he wants to give me advice. He doesn’t have to be like that,” said Mahomes. “He’s such a good dude. And I have so much respect for him, and I’ll take any advice he gives me.”

“He always talks about being yourself; he thinks that—which I truly believe, too—guys can spot when you’re not authentic and you’re not putting in the work,” Mahomes added. “He demonstrated authenticity every single day. That’s why guys respected him so much.”

Is Tom Brady in the wrong?

The Raiders have their QBs, Geno Smith and Aidan O’Connell, in-house; it’s fair to wonder if Brady has that kind of bond with them. Brady’s relationships prior to arriving in Sin City are his business; he has been around a long time and is highly respected. But in many ways, he’s partly the face of the Raiders now as well.

Perhaps it would be beneficial for someone to acquaint Brady with the history of the Silver and Black, providing a comprehensive overview of the enemy’s identity.
