Raiders News: Baron Davis, and more.

Bay Area Legend Baron Davis On Raiders Offseason, New QB Geno Smith

Baron Davis, a longtime Las Vegas Raiders fan and Bay Area legend, recently shared his thoughts on the team’s offseason and the series of moves they made.

Back in May, Davis took part in the team’s Raider Nation Origin Stories series. In it, the former basketball All-Star spoke on the roots of his fandom as he visited Raiders HQ—as digital team reporter Levi Edwards put it, “he was simply a giddy fan.” With training camp approaching later this month, Davis attended events in Las Vegas as excitement builds for the upcoming NBA Summer League.

The Raiders have a fresh look, and Baron Davis has noticed.

While speaking to Vegas Sports Today, Davis shared his thoughts on the current state of the Raiders under a new regime. He emphasized that this new leadership is providing a much-needed reset for the Silver and Black. “A fresh start, a professional look, and you have a seasoned veteran at quarterback,” stated Davis. “You’ve got a coach that’s got winning and championship pedigree.”

It’s not all just superficial either. This current Raiders braintrust (led by general manager John Spytek) has already made its mark in Year 1. Davis agrees with that sentiment as well, citing many of the headlining transactions that dominated this offseason. “Re-signing Maxx Crosby, bringing in Geno Smith, and drafting Ashton Jeanty—those are the moves we need to make to move forward,” Davis said. “That’s what I like to see. I am happy for the Raiders organization.“

Finding a Raiders fan who disagrees with Davis’s sentiments would be difficult. While Spytek and Co. have at times bewildered the fanbase with a lack of urgency with certain matters (such as the cornerback position), they’re winning over most of Raider Nation. They addressed the player widely recognized as the face of the organization, Crosby. Additionally, they improved the two most significant weaknesses on offense by acquiring Smith and Jeanty.

While Rome wasn’t built in a day, the Raiders have certainly laid a solid foundation.
