Raiders News: Jakobi Meyers, and more.

Raider Nation Split On Whether Raiders Need Another WR

Do the Las Vegas Raiders need another wide receiver ahead of the season? Raider Nation appears split in their belief at the moment.

The Silver and Black are at an intriguing point right now. Looking at their wide receiver corps, it’s a mix of talent, speed, and tons of potential—but sometimes that’s not enough in the NFL. In a season where a new regime led by head coach Pete Carroll looks to create a new culture, wins need to come in bunches. There is significant pressure, particularly in a division where three of its four members qualified for the playoffs in the previous season. Should the team consider making a trade for a high-profile player like Chris Godwin? Perhaps signing a veteran like Amari Cooper is the answer?

In terms of the depth chart, the Raiders feature Jakobi Meyers as the de facto No. 1 wideout. In two years with the Raiders thus far, Meyers has accumulated just shy of 2,000 receiving yards (1,834) along with 12 touchdowns via the air. It should be noted that those scores have come from a multitude of quarterbacks—a problem that the team believes it has rectified with Geno Smith. Nonetheless, Meyers’ accomplishments are notable.

Then you have Tre Tucker, unofficially the No. 2 option, though if for nothing else, seniority. That being said, he’s had his moments and has averaged just north of 13 yards per reception (13.2) in the last two seasons.

What does Raider Nation have to say in our poll?

After the aforementioned duo, lay many questions. Could the Raiders be anticipating that rookie Dont’e Thornton will make an immediate impact? His physical prowess makes him the prototypical “old school Raiders” type of receiver. Still, the expectations might be unfair. Conversely, Jack Bech, another rookie, also has significant hype heading into training camp. However, as the activities unfold, we will see how he progresses. As of now, he could be the third interchangeable piece alongside Thornton. Then you have more rookies such as Tommy Mellott and Zakhari Franklin rounding out the group.

Looking at our poll results via our Twitter/X page, many Raiders fans remain unsure of which course is the appropriate one. Training camp will provide a clearer picture. Undoubtedly, some receivers will stand out and begin to separate themselves from the pack. All of that notwithstanding, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with fortifying the receiver group.

Let us know your thoughts, Raider Nation.
