Raiders News: Derek Carr, and more.

“I’ve always loved him”—Derek Carr on new Raiders coach Pete Carroll

Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, now enjoying retirement, recently shared his thoughts on the new coach in Sin City.

The team’s all-time passing leader remains a divisive topic even today. People find themselves revisiting his legacy given his decision to hang up his cleats earlier this offseason. The fact is, Carr brought stability to a position that severely lacked it prior to the 2014 NFL draft.

Ironically, after his abrupt departure from the Raiders, the quarterback position has faced more challenges than ever. It’s not surprising that new head coach Pete Carroll’s first move was to acquire Geno Smith. The two-time Pro Bowl signal-caller, who’s been dependable as a starter for the Seattle Seahawks, aims to provide the same level of reliability that Carr once offered.

While No. 4 is mostly enjoying himself these days, he is certainly well-informed about everything related to the Raiders. During a recent golf tournament, Carr shared his thoughts on the current situation with the Silver and Black—specifically regarding Carroll and a certain new rookie.

“I love Pete Carroll. I’ve always loved him and always admired him from afar. His guys play super aggressive, super fast on defense,” Carr stated while speaking with Shannon Kelly of Nevada Sports Net. “On offense, you know they’re going to run the football, obviously with their draft pick. Even though he’s a Boise State Bronco, I’ll look past that he’s a Raider now, so we’re family.”

It’s intriguing to think about what could have been for Carr if a coach like Carroll had entered the scene during his playing days. Despite Jon Gruden’s eventual attempts to improve the situation, his departure ultimately sealed Carr’s fate. Thereafter, if you remember, it seemed like Josh McDaniels was eager to part ways with Carr soon after he became the Raiders’ head coach.

Fast forward a couple of years, and it seems that Carr bears no resentment toward the organization that provided him with an opportunity following his collegiate career at Fresno State.
