Las Angeles Chargers rookie Tre Harris, AFC West

Los Angeles Chargers Second-Rounder Puts Holdout Train On Tracks: AFC West

30-of-32 second-round selections in April’s draft remain unsigned; Los Angeles Chargers rookie Tre Harris of the AFC West is first to take a stand.

It all began when Carson Schwesigner and Jayden Higgins, the 33rd- and 34th-overall selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, struck deals that were fully guaranteed. Since, no other second-round selection in the same draft has agreed to the financial structure of their rookie deal.

That’s 93.75% of Round 2 draftees that remain unsigned.

And yet, as unbelievable as this percentage is, neither players nor front office personnel appear to be in any rush to get things sorted out. That is until this weekend, when Los Angeles Chargers second-rounder Tre Harris became the first official holdout.

A singular move that may spark something much bigger.

While Harris currently remains the only official holdout among second-rounders in April’s draft, his stance is backed by more than 90% of those selected in that same round. The holdout train is now on the tracks, and seats are available for others to hop on.

Harris projects to be an integral part of the Chargers’ passing offense this upcoming season alongside second-year receiver Ladd McConkey. His 114 receptions and 2,015 receiving yards over a two-year span at Ole Miss caught the attention of scouts, paving the way to a 55th-overall selection by Los Angeles’ powder blue squad.

Division-mates R.J. Harvey and Jack Bech, both drafted in the same round as Harris, also figure to be focal points of their team’s offenses. Neither will join Harris on the holdout express, however–at least, not for the time being.
