When a team has a Pro Bowl offensive lineman on their roster, the goal is to keep them around; that’s a goal the Kansas City Chiefs accomplished this week, giving guard Trey Smith a reason to continue playing in the AFC West.
From sixth-round selection to Pro Bowler–that’s the story of interior offensive lineman Trey Smith. Today, Smith adds another chapter to his story; one that comes with nearly $100 million.
On Tuesday, Smith and the Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement on an extension. The new deal keeps the 26-year-old in Missouri long-term at the tune of $94 million over four seasons.
For Smith, it’s an extension that comes on the heels of his best season in the National Football League. His 34 pressures and one sack allowed throughout his ’24 campaign both serve as career lows, with a 75.1 blocking grade via Pro Football Focus being his career-high mark.
Those numbers include Smith’s postseason performances. Without counting the playoffs, the Tennessee alum went the year with a goose egg in the allowed sacks column on 1,115 pass-block snaps.
And while Chiefs fans are excited about the return of their team’s Pro Bowl guard, nobody is happier than Patrick Mahomes.

The next stop for Kansas City is training camp. Both rookies and veterans will report together on July 21st. That’s where the quest to lift the third Lombardi trophy in a four-year span begins, with Trey Smith being a big part of potentially making that happen.
In the meanwhile, the Chiefs have their offensive linemen affairs in order with Creed Humphrey‘s extension last offseason followed by Smith’s this week.
