Raiders News: Maxx Crosby, Manny Pacquiao

How Boxing Legend Manny Pacquiao Made His Way To Raiders HQ

It was a remarkable sight to see boxing legend Manny Pacquiao at the Las Vegas Raiders headquarters as he prepares for his return to the ring.

Since relocating to Sin City, the Raiders have consistently demonstrated hospitality toward prominent sports figures. The facilities in Henderson are arguably the best in the league, which naturally attracts stars. The Raiders have welcomed notable athletes such as Barry Sanders and Baron Davis, Roman Reigns, and most recently, Manny Pacquiao, who holds the record for the most world titles across various weight classes.

For those unfamiliar with his impressive career, the Filipino icon has captured titles in several weight classes, including welterweight, featherweight, junior welterweight, junior middleweight, junior featherweight, lightweight, junior lightweight, and, of course, where it all began—the flyweight title.

The Raiders, Manny Pacquiao: When greatness enters the building…

Pacquiao is currently preparing for a return to the ring, which is quite noteworthy considering he hasn’t fought since 2021, when he lost to Yordenis Ugas. As anyone familiar with Las Vegas can attest, the heat during this time of year can be unbearable. Seeking a respite from the oppressive air, Pacquiao headed to the Intermountain Health Performance Center.

Will Carless, head of the team’s communications and public relations department, confirmed the visit this week; however, it was Marcus Padilla, the Senior Director of Broadcast, who made it all happen.

USA Today’s Josh Peter laid out Padilla’s path. For those who may not know, Padilla is the president of the Raiders’ Asian Pacific Islander group and reportedly attempted to facilitate a collaboration between the Raiders and Pacquiao when the team was still based in Oakland. Although the plans from 2009 did not come to fruition, Padilla made another effort after learning about Pacquiao’s return to boxing. He visited Pacquiao’s training camp in Los Angeles, and from that point, things began to take shape.

Padilla mentioned that Pacquiao found the facility overwhelming, as many likely do. He described it as “Big. Amazing.” I believe most of Raider Nation would concur.
