Let’s get you caught up on all of the latest musings around the NFL, including a Dallas Cowboys showdown starring Micah Parsons vs. Jerry Jones. You also have the Las Vegas Raiders making some roster moves. Oh, and Miami Dolphins star defensive tackle Zach Sieler stays put.
What’s going on with NFL star Micah Parsons?
The latest chapter in the ongoing Parsons debacle regarding his future has taken another twist. Jones, the often-criticized Cowboys owner, seems to exacerbate the situation with every statement he makes into a microphone.
Parsons and Jones might as well be starring in the NFL’s next great soap opera—”As The Contract Turns.” On one side: Parsons, the Cowboys’ wrecking ball edge rusher, fresh off four straight seasons of 12-plus sacks and already building a Canton-worthy resume. On the other: Jerry, the forever-grinning Dallas puppet master, insisting everything is just peachy… even as his star defender publicly declares he would rather not suit up in silver and blue anymore.
Parsons says he sat down with Jones way back in March to talk leadership—next thing he knew, they were jawing dollar signs and years like it was Shark Tank. He tapped out, told Jerry to talk to his agent, and waited for the paperwork. Five months later? Crickets. No extension, no clarity, just a social-media-fueled standoff that’s getting spicier by the day.
Jones continues to refer to the situation as “part of negotiation,” but as the Cowboys’ opening game against Philly approaches, fans are becoming increasingly anxious. Will Jerry blink and pay the man his mega-bag? Or will the situation turn into Dallas’ latest high-profile holdout saga? Stay tuned—this drama is rapidly intensifying.
At least the Raiders don’t have this type of drama, right? Aside from the Christian Wilkins release, it’s been a quiet offseason thus far. Ahead of this week’s preseason opener, the Silver and Black made some roster updates.
Roster moves by Raiders GM John Spytek…
The Raiders’ mock game wasn’t just a dress rehearsal—it was a live audition, and a couple of hopefuls just got the Hollywood “thanks, but no thanks.” After Pete Carroll waxed poetic about how much he learned from Saturday’s scrimmage, the roster churn began. Out went undrafted TE Pat Conroy and WR Kyle Phillips. In came two veterans with resumés—and names—that’ll keep editors on their toes.
Enter Kawaan Baker and Albert Okwuegbunam. Baker, a 6-1 bruiser drafted by the Saints in 2021, has played more special teams than offense and once served a six-game suspension for a PED violation (not exactly the kind of film you want coaches watching). He hasn’t taken an offensive snap since his rookie cameo, but Raiders brass clearly thinks there’s enough juice left in the tank to kick the tires.
Then there’s “Albert ”O”—a fourth-rounder who flashed with Denver but fell down depth charts faster than you can spell his last name. He’s large, athletic, and possesses the physical potential to create excitement in the tight end room, provided he can remain healthy.
The takeaway is that Carroll’s Raiders have no qualms about implementing drastic changes. While training camp may seem like a time for summer fun, the reality is that jobs—and dreams—are very much at stake in Vegas. The Raiders are starting to look like a truly professional organization.
Well, one player that doesn’t have to worry about getting his walking papers anytime soon is Zach Sieler.
The Dolphins lock down their defensive stalwart…
Sieler just cashed in—and the Dolphins are betting big on their quiet defensive superstar. Miami locked up the wrecking ball DT with a three-year, $64 million extension (including a cool $44M guaranteed), making sure one of the NFL’s most underrated disruptors isn’t going anywhere.
Sieler’s story reads like a football fairy tale: cut by the Ravens, scooped off waivers by Miami in 2019, and now he’s the heartbeat of the Dolphins’ D-line. Last season, he racked up 10 sacks, 55 tackles, an INT, and even a forced fumble—basically filling in the stat sheet like a man on a mission. Indeed, he achieved back-to-back double-digit sack seasons as an interior lineman, a feat no Dolphin has achieved since Cameron Wake’s heyday.
Due to injuries to Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb in 2024, Sieler had to lead the defense. Now that Minkah Fitzpatrick and youngsters Kenneth Grant and Jordan Phillips have joined the team, the Fins’ defense is looking rather tough.
At 32, Sieler isn’t merely cashing checks; he’s focused on pursuing victories. Now that he has a new contract, he can focus on his strengths, which include disrupting offenses, providing quiet leadership, and demonstrating his ability to produce exceptional results.
