In the last game of the preseason, a devastating situation unfolded. The second-string quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, Aidan O’Connell, is likely to be placed on injured reserve, prompting the team to seek another backup quarterback. Currently, it appears that Cam Miller will not have the chance to step in as the second-string passer.
Pete Carroll spoke about the necessity to add a veteran to the room on Sunday. “We are looking everywhere to see the best guy that fits us,” Carroll said. “I want somebody who’s played; that’s what’s important.”
Cuts around the NFL have begun, resulting in talented players becoming available. In addition to searching for a quarterback, Las Vegas should also consider addressing needs in cornerback, offensive line, and defensive line positions. Meanwhile, it appears this regime is satisfied with the linebacker corps, as Amari Gainer has publicly bid farewell to Raider Nation.
Mike Hilton: Cornerback from the Miami Dolphins
Sin City desperately needs more starting-caliber cornerbacks. Darien Porter has not looked promising in the preseason. Additionally, most of the position group is filled with young, inexperienced players with upside. Hilton adds a solution to both of these problems.
After posting an impressive 75.8 overall PFF grade, the seasoned veteran signed with the Dolphins. However, the team decided to move on from the 31-year-old on Monday. The change is in large part because the team has looked to be younger in many positions.
While Hilton has significant starting experience, he does not align with the typical profile of a Carroll cornerback. He is five feet nine inches tall, and currently, only two cornerbacks on the roster are shorter than six feet.
Kenyon Green: Offensive Guard from Philadelphia Eagles
Compared to the starting offensive line, the second group in Las Vegas has performed poorly. There is constant pressure, and the running lanes are extremely limited. Any help for this group could make a significant difference.
Green is a former 2022 first-round pick by the Houston Texans. Although he has not lived up to the hype, the Texas A&M alum was a starter last season. Injuries have plagued his career, as he did not play one snap in 2023. Because the offensive line depth is a huge question mark, Las Vegas should at least be interested in the young lineman.
