Here are some updates to get you up to speed with the Las Vegas Raiders as we officially enter Week 1, which features a new quarterback and ongoing trade buzz thanks to the internet.
Chief among the latest news was the surprising move by Raiders brass to add a new quarterback to the room. Jeff Driskel was added to the practice squad out in Sin City, with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston breaking the story. Originally a sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers, Driskel is your consummate journeyman quarterback, though he’s only appeared in two games over the last two years. Let’s face it, Driskel won’t see any playing time this upcoming season and if he does, it’s because injuries have riddled the position.
The other aspect of this signing is its implications for Cam Miller. With Geno Smith as the starter and Kenny Pickett as the backup, Miller currently serves as a long-term project. Vincent Bonsignore from the Las Vegas Review-Journal noted that the addition of Driskel will not impact Miller’s situation moving forward.
FYI: The @Raiders addition of veteran QB Jeff Driskel to their practice squad does not affect rookie QB Cam Miller. He’ll remain on the practice squad as well.

Speaking of the quarterbacks, what’s the situation with one of the guys tasked with protecting them, Jackson Powers-Johnson?
Offensive line woes for the Raiders…
The offensive line has been a topic of concern for everyone during the offseason since Pete Carroll became the head coach. Powers-Johnson, having shown both promise and struggles in his rookie year, was on track to become the team’s starting center. Over the past couple of months, the team has moved him to right guard. This transition has sparked various conspiracy theories regarding the reasoning behind the change. In light of this, Raiders legend Lincoln Kennedy recently shared his thoughts on the sensitive issue with the “Locked On Raiders” show.
“Is JPJ, with actually what I heard, is he in his feelings a lot of times about what’s going on? He needs to snap out of it,” Kennedy stated. “If JPJ truly is in his feelings or has some way about not being the starting center and possibly spending time at guard, he needs to get over it.”
So, if you’re a Raiders fan reading or listening to that statement, should you be concerned? Is there a scenario where Powers-Johnson has an issue with what’s been happening? If so, will it lead to problems down the road? Obviously, we’d all like to understand why the Raiders are handling this situation the way they are. Is it a matter of motivation, or do they believe he’s better suited for the guard position? For now, everyone’s attention will be on his performance in Week 1.
Another story that hasn’t gone away is regarding Jakobi Meyers and his own future with the Silver and Black.
Trading away Jakobi Meyers makes no sense…
Bleacher Report has proposed several trade scenarios involving Meyers. To be honest, none of them make sense for the Raiders due to the inadequate compensation offered. Meyers, coming off a 1,000-yard season, should command more than just a sixth- or fifth-round pick. Among all the scenarios outlined, only the one involving the Minnesota Vikings seems reasonable. A fourth pick from the Vikings could at least be debated—Spytek could potentially squeeze a little more out of Minnesota general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah given the lack of receiver depth on his team.
Still, trading away your most reliable weapon besides Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers is just asking for trouble. What are your thoughts, Raider Nation? Please let us know in our live poll down below:
