Royal Ramble: Breaking Down Canelo vs. Crawford

Before Allegiant Stadium hosts Monday Night Football, it’ll be witness to the biggest boxing spectacle of 2025: Canelo vs. Crawford.

This Saturday, September 13th, from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, two of the best boxers of their era face off. On one side is what has long been the face of boxing: Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, and on the other, we have Terence “Bud” Crawford. Each has already stamped their legacies but now faces the other in a fight that could elevate one more than the other.

Terence Crawford is an undefeated (40-0, 31 KOs) four-division, two-time undisputed champion. He will be making the move up to 168 lbs., a two-division jump from his previous fight.

Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is a four-division and an undisputed world champion. Canelo has been a pro for about twenty years and has been fighting professionally since he was a teenager. Still, the man was for years lauded for the challenges he would take and the fighters he faced.

Each fighter would add a great name here with a victory, but in the ring, what are the advantages for each fighter?

The matchup…

In a head-to-head comparison, Canelo’s edge lies in his power, durability, and commitment to body work, while Crawford separates himself with speed, movement, and overall physical strength. Their ring IQ, toughness, and defensive awareness appear evenly matched, though Canelo’s precision as a counterpuncher gives him a slight advantage. Ultimately, the matchup frames Canelo as the heavier hitter and more resilient fighter, while Crawford presents the quicker, more versatile skill set.

The outcome will not be surprising, regardless of what happens. A draw, knockout, or decision would not be shocking. However, it seems that the fans will come out as winners here since neither fighter is looking to lose.
