Geno Smith’s Turnover Storm Has Raiders Sinking Fast

LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Raiders are rapidly sinking due to the turnover issues created by quarterback Geno Smith—so, can things be salvaged?

If nothing else, Smith didn’t sugarcoat it after Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears. “I’m for damn for sure gonna get better. I’m not hanging my head about nothing,” Smith said (H/T Vegas Sports Today). “But I am frustrated, I am upset…I’m putting us in tough situations over and over again…that’s on me.”

The honesty is refreshing, but the results remain brutal. Smith has now thrown at least three interceptions in two different games this season, and his seven total picks in less than four full outings lead the NFL. Raider Nation can see the reality on the field without needing statistics—this situation isn’t working.

The Raiders aren’t just losing; they’re sabotaging themselves. When a veteran quarterback repeatedly forces the defense to bail him out of reckless mistakes, there’s no scheme or play-calling tweak that can cover the cracks. Confidence is one thing, but turnovers are a death sentence in the NFL.

The calls for a change are becoming increasingly urgent, and they are justified. While Kenny Pickett may not be the franchise savior the Raiders need, he embodies a glimmer of hope—hope that the team can avoid further self-inflicted injuries under Smith’s leadership.

Head coach Pete Carroll may prioritize loyalty, but this is the NFL, not a trust-building exercise. If Smith persists on this current trajectory, the Raiders’ season may come to an end before October transitions to November. Accountability matters, and securing wins is crucial.

It’s time for Las Vegas to decide whether Smith’s leadership is worth the chaos. Right now, the answer looks obvious.
