Raiders News: Colts Pound The Silver And Black

Raiders vs. Colts: What Las Vegas Got Right Despite The Loss

In a word, the Las Vegas Raiders’ performance in Indianapolis was disgraceful. Las Vegas was outplayed in every phase of the game. The offense was abysmal, the defense failed to generate pressure on Daniel Jones, and special teams once again gave up a game-changing play.

Given those struggles, fans are beginning to question the team’s coaching. Through five weeks, the Silver and Black have surrendered a punt return touchdown, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal. Still, there were a few positives to take away from this Week 5 matchup.

Jack Bech is finally utilized in the gameplan…

After being drafted in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Texas Christian product has primarily contributed on special teams. Fourth-round pick Dont’e Thornton Jr. is also seeing a decrease in snaps despite showing some promise earlier in the season.

Now, Bech is carving out a role in the passing game. He’s shown the ability to find soft spots in zone coverage and create separation against man. Despite finishing with only three receptions, he was targeted five times in the game—a positive sign given the offense’s overall struggle.

With the Raiders no longer in playoff contention, it’s time to see what this rookie class can do. Bech’s growth suggests he’s ready to take on a larger role moving forward.

Ashton Jeanty’s involvement in the passing game…

The sixth overall pick has had a slow start to his rookie season, far below the high expectations that came with his draft status. He’s been subbed out on passing downs and sharing carries with Zamir White, limiting his impact early on. But now, he’s starting to see more snaps and is getting opportunities in screen plays.

The Boise State alum hauled in five receptions for 42 yards, showing he’s a legitimate threat in the passing game, not just on the ground.

The key? The offensive line hasn’t done him many favors, failing to open consistent running lanes. If Jeanty is given space to utilize his explosiveness, his production could significantly improve. Although he has fallen behind in the Rookie of the Year race, a strong finish could swing the outcome.

Raiders will have a high draft pick next year

Instead of competing for a playoff spot, the Raiders are now in the hunt for the No. 1 overall pick. It marks the second consecutive season the team has lowered its floor. Adding another aging quarterback has not solved the problem, as he has proven he is no longer the player he once was—a familiar pattern for the franchise.

On the bright side, this year’s quarterback draft class is one of the strongest in recent memory. It will feature both potential stars and developmental prospects. It also aligns with Pete Carroll’s long-term plan: Geno Smith can start for one more season while a young quarterback develops, providing the continuity the team desperately needs at the position.

Sadly, it has already become mock draft season, with the Raiders slated to have the number six overall pick. This allows LaNorris Sellers, Drew Allar, and Dante Moore to be the future.
