Another week is wrapped, and the AFC West race keeps shifting. Here’s how the division stacks up heading into Week 8.
4. Las Vegas Raiders
Trending: Down
Right now, the Raiders aren’t just behind—they’re in a different galaxy. Drop any random NFL team into the AFC West, and Las Vegas likely still ranks last. The latest evidence: just 95 total yards in a lopsided loss to the Chiefs. A bye week is finally here, which at least buys the Silver and Black a brief break from the embarrassment.
3. Los Angeles Chargers
Trending: Down
Once again, the Chargers looked overmatched against a legitimate contender. Just like their loss to Washington, Los Angeles couldn’t hang with Indianapolis for four quarters. Injuries play a role, but they aren’t the whole story. With the run game depleted, the Chargers have been forced away from their ball-control identity—and it’s exposing a defense that isn’t built to carry the load. That’s why they slide behind our new No. 2 team…
2. Denver Broncos
Trending: Steady
For three quarters against the Giants, the Broncos’ offense sputtered. As usual, the defense kept them alive. Then came a fourth-quarter eruption—33 points and another narrow escape. It hasn’t always been pretty, but Denver is 5-2. If they keep grinding out wins like this, no one should expect an easy matchup against the Broncos anytime soon.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Trending: Up
The Chiefs finally look whole again—and unleashing that on the Raiders was hardly fair. Kansas City dominated every phase from start to finish, though Las Vegas’ ineptitude makes it tough to gauge just how “back” the Chiefs are. A matchup with Washington will offer a better barometer. Still, K.C. appears primed to reclaim its place atop the AFC West race.
