We all know that the Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback for the future. The question is whether they’ll draft one next year. Minority owner Tom Brady caused a stir recently by heaping praise on a potential target.
Let’s be frank, many Raiders fans really bought into the hype caused by Geno Smith’s arrival. To be honest, the reunion with his former head coach in Pete Carroll, seemed like a perfect pairing on paper. Regrettably, they’ve been unable to recreate any of the magic they had in Seattle. Some of the blame falls on Carroll. He brought in his son to run the offensive line, while other factors, such as injuries, have also worked against the duo.
Who will the Las Vegas Raiders draft in 2026?
As the Raiders stare down the barrel of yet another season with double-digit losses, the solution is in front of them. They need a fresh, young, and dynamic quarterback to inject some life into the organization. Say what you will about Smith’s gallant efforts to play through injury, he’s not the answer. Interestingly enough, Raider Nation recently took note of someone who might be the solution, thanks to some comments made by Brady.
Essentially, Brady called Notre Dame’s CJ Carr the best signal-caller he’s seen at the college level, since, wait for it, Joe Burrow. That’s quite the comparison if we’re being honest. While some Raiders fans might not be overly familiar with the college game, if there’s one thing that Brady knows, it’s college quarterbacks.
Drafting a player with the same pedigree as Burrow will have Raider Nation salivating. The fact is, the Raiders haven’t had someone with that level of talent in a long time. Even so, there are still many things that need to develop before such a prognostication is deemed accurate. For example, we need the rest of the college season to play out. There will be scouting events that will also play a part, such as pro days, individual workouts, and the NFL combine.
You then have to wonder what the future would look like in 2026 for the Raiders as well. Would Carroll and Smith be back? Or, will there be another coaching staff in place looking to rebuild the Raiders offense around a rookie? With so much football still left to be played in both college and the NFL, these questions will only get bigger as time progresses.
