We all know that the Las Vegas Raiders desperately need a quarterback of the future. Back in April, many felt that Shedeur Sanders would help alleviate that problem. However, following an underwhelming NFL debut, maybe the team’s brass made the right call.
Declaring a player a “bust” following just one performance and their first one at that would be incredibly shortsighted. Even more so when you factor in that it came in an emergency situation rather than a planned-out, organized effort. Also, these are the Cleveland Browns we’re talking about.
Should the Raiders have drafted Shedeur Sanders?
Nonetheless, Sanders was without question one of the most divisive and controversial draft prospects in recent memory. So much so that his name dominated the entire draft weekend from start to finish. Fast forward to mid-November, and you can see why some might take a victory lap. Following an injury to Dillon Gabriel, Sanders was thrust into action, where he completed four passes out of 16 while also throwing an interception.
Again, you have to keep the circumstances in mind. Still, he looked far from being an NFL-level signal-caller. Even if the Raiders had drafted him in the fifth round (or prior), there’s no way he’d look respectable considering the state of the O-line in Sin City.
While you can certainly praise his 25-yard pass to fellow rookie Harold Fannin Jr. as notable, Sanders simply looked out of his depth. Hey, at least the Raiders have Geno Smith at quarterback, right?
