Rather than take advantage of a Dallas Cowboys’ weakness, Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly once proved he’s unable to capitalize, and the offense again sputtered. At this point, it’s comical.
It’s a weekly cycle of rinse and repeat these days when discussing the Raiders’ offense. Nothing has come together for this unit under Kelly. However, in his defense, it doesn’t help that there are factors outside of his control that’ve also played a part. Even so, you can’t necessarily say he doesn’t have weapons—Brock Bowers, Tre Tucker, Ashton Jeanty, and Michael Mayer. Unfortunately, the results speak for themselves.
Is it time that the Raiders move on from Chip Kelly?
As for Monday night, everyone but Kelly apparently saw how the Raiders should’ve attacked the Cowboys. Look, offensive line deficiencies aside, that doesn’t mean you refuse to even attempt to establish an identity. You certainly don’t look to throw it deep when you clearly don’t have the personnel to do so, either. It was a true clusterf*** in which Jeanty carried the ball just six times for the entirety of the contest. It’s simply inexcusable.
Looking back, drafting Jeanty might’ve been a no-brainer in terms of not passing on such an explosive talent. Nonetheless, the decision-making regarding his usage leaves a lot to be desired, and that’s putting it mildly. Rather than using their first-round pick to slash a Cowboys run defense that has been mediocre at best, the Raiders went the opposite way. Raider Nation was instead treated to another Geno Smith “masterclass” as he threw the ball 28 times.
At the end of the day, we can’t dispute how poor the O-line has performed this season. In fact, it has been historically seen at levels of ineptitude—a lot of that falling on a certain coach’s offspring. Still, they don’t give their young players an opportunity; they play veterans who clearly don’t have it, and whatever talent they had, they force them into other positions (i.e., Jackson Powers-Johnson).
Unable to find any groove, it was just a matter of time before the Cowboys found theirs through the air, and then it was all she wrote on Monday Night Football.
