Raiders News: Deebo Samuel, and more.

Deebo Samuel is the YAC weapon the Raiders need for Fernando Mendoza

The Las Vegas Raiders could give Deebo Samuel a path back to the West Coast after his years in California with the San Francisco 49ers. The multipurpose offensive weapon is coming off a down season with the Washington Commanders in 2025. Even with Jayden Daniels at quarterback, Samuel’s production dipped from his previous standard.

Samuel could be a better fit in new Raiders coach Klint Kubiak’s offense. His versatility allows him to align in multiple spots and stress defenses in different ways within the same game plan. He would also give Las Vegas a veteran pass catcher who can provide a steady option for any quarterback.

Deebo Samuel is a perfect fit for Klint Kubiak’s Raiders offense…

Not only can the former South Carolina standout help in the passing game, but he can also add to the run game. Samuel has experience lining up in the backfield, which could give Ashton Jeanty a breather and expand the Raiders’ personnel options. It also fits an offense that treats screens and quick throws as extensions of the run.

Samuel is a proven bubble-screen threat. He thrives in space, makes the first defender miss and forces defensive backs to tackle in the open field. Over four quarters, that is a taxing assignment if defenses are also dealing with Brock Bowers and Jeanty.

Samuel turns 30 this season, which adds a different element. Beyond production, he would bring veteran leadership and serve as a resource for a young core learning how to prepare and play on Sundays.

A contract projection…

Despite being a recognizable name around the league, the former Commanders standout has a relatively short résumé by star standards. He has one first-team All-Pro selection and one Pro Bowl appearance. Combined with his age, that profile can limit his leverage in contract negotiations.

Samuel and Rashid Shaheed could land in a similar market this offseason. Although the reports have been speculative, Shaheed’s familiarity with Klint Kubiak has linked him to Las Vegas. Samuel also has a Kubiak connection, having produced in 2023 with Kubiak serving as pass game coordinator.

Both players could command deals around the $18 million-per-year range. If the numbers are comparable, Samuel profiles as the more complete option because of his versatility and ability to impact the offense beyond traditional receiver usage.
