The Las Vegas Raiders star’s latest Los Angeles Chargers takedown was classic Maxx Crosby: competitive, unapologetic, and rooted in a fierce rivalry.
Crosby got asked a simple question. Which fan base is the most toxic? He could’ve played it safe, said “all of them,” and moved on with his day. Instead, he pulled out a scalpel and went to work on the Chargers. It’s a franchise that’s spent nine years in Los Angeles without fully convincing anyone, including its own fans, that it actually belongs there.
Crosby’s theory is that Chargers fans overcompensate…
Small numbers, big mouths.
It’s basically the sports fan version of a Napoleon complex, and he delivered the diagnosis with the confidence of a guy who’s sacked enough quarterbacks to say whatever he wants.
The Chargers left San Diego in 2017 and have spent years trying to establish an identity in a city that already hosts the Rams, the Lakers, and numerous other attractions vying for attention. Additionally, it’s the home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are on the verge of winning three consecutive World Series titles. Crosby’s perspective is that the fans who feel abandoned have become vocal because their silence wasn’t gaining them any recognition.

Here’s what makes this genuinely fun. There’s a compliment buried inside the insult.
Maxx Crosby tells NEON that the Chargers have the most toxic fan base in the NFL

Crosby said he respects the toxicity, because if it annoys him, that means the trash talk is actually landing. That’s not nothing. A five-time Pro Bowler just admitted that heckling gets under his skin. Well, in its own weird way, call that a form of tribute. Chargers fans should probably thrill to this. Somewhere in the AFC West, a guy who gets paid millions of dollars to hit people just handed them exactly the ammunition they wanted.
This AFC West rivalry just got juicier…
There’s a practical wrinkle, though. The Raiders and Chargers play twice a year no matter what, division rivals locked in by the schedule. Crosby just handed that fan base a highlight reel of motivation before a single snap has been played. Expect louder boos, more creative signage, and at least one fan showing up to SoFi Stadium with a printed transcript of this interview.
Maxx Crosby didn’t just answer a question here. He built a rivalry storyline out of thin air. Honestly, that tracks for a guy who treats every offseason like it’s a press conference tour.
