Although the Las Vegas Raiders have one of the best tight end rooms in the NFL, the team added another at the position from free agency.
Zack Kuntz was drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. After struggling to make rosters, the former Penn State standout signed with the DC Defenders of the UFL. At 6-foot-8, Kuntz is a large specimen at the tight end position, but Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer present a steep challenge for playing time, so he will likely compete for a practice squad role instead.
To make room for him on the roster, Las Vegas waived running back Chris Collier.
This is one of many transactions expected during training camp.
Las Vegas now has a need at running back…
Despite having a promising young talent in Ashton Jeanty, the Raiders are missing proven depth at the position. Roman Hemby and Mike Washington Jr. are two rookies with zero snaps played at the professional level, and Hemby is not even a lock to make the final roster. Dylan Laube is the only other running back on the roster, but he has struggled with ball security.
As a result, there is no proven player to assist Jeanty with carries this season. Every other position group has a seasoned veteran to help mold the rookies, which makes another roster move likely soon.

Miles Sanders could be the answer…
On July 27, Sanders worked out for Las Vegas after fully recovering from knee surgery. The 28-year-old running back was a Pro Bowl player in 2022, and the former Philadelphia Eagle brings knowledge and leadership to a young running back group. He also has experience returning kickoffs in the NFL, having returned three kickoffs for 68 yards in 2025.
There are other notable free agents at the position still available, including Najee Harris, Austin Ekeler and Antonio Gibson, who would all be great additions to this roster. If Las Vegas does not sign another running back, that would be a great sign that somebody is stepping up in a major way.
