Oakland’s first preseason game of 2017 produced much drama and perhaps raised more questions than answers. Questions like: Is Ken Norton Jr. the right man for the job? Last, but certainly not least, our Raider Ramble panel will take a look at the AFC North as we set sail towards the regular season! A division that has certainly given fans one of the best rivalry matchups in recent history in Ravens versus Steelers, along with one of the most intriguing and controversial teams in the Bengals. But perhaps after a seemly strong offseason, the Cleveland Browns are preparing to drag themselves from amongst the NFL’s basement dwellers and come into their own. Well, that may be a long shot as only time will tell.
Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Johnny Burczak, a man who follows all things Kansas City Chiefs and co-hosts a podcast called WildWestAFC Podcast. Now I do not usually fraternize with the enemy because I am acutely aware that Raiders versus Chiefs is the best AFC West rivalry in my book, but in this instance, I was looking for another man’s opinion on perhaps Oakland’s fiercest rival.
With all of the recent commotion that Donald Penn has created by holding out of camp, I started to do a little digging into what the Oakland Raiders could soon do to address the left tackle position.
One thing is clear, the NFL above all else is a business, and though sometimes that fact is lost on fans, everyone from players to the people who run the organizations understand this perfectly.
Right now Penn has every right to ask for a raise yet the timing of his decision is less than optimal.
After Raider Ramble’s somewhat controversial pick in last week’s preview of the AFC West, we now turn our attentions to the AFC South. After finishing a combined 29-35, only two other divisions (NFC West & AFC North) finished with a worse combined record. However, it seems like this division is brimming with talent and perhaps this will be the season its teams put it all together. Let’s take a look at some of the most notable offseason moves made by each team.
