Oakland Raiders general manager is having one of his quietest off-season’s since taking the reins but that’s a good thing for the Silver and Black; his minimal spending is proof of that as he no longer has to overspend.
The Raiders don’t have to overpay anymore
Many Raider fans were hoping for a big splash in free agency what with all the cap space available, but McKenzie’s approach was different this time around due to several factors among them, the top two being:
- Long-term contracts needed for Derek Carr, Khalil Mack, and Gabe Jackson.
- Deep draft in talent defensively which can fill many holes.
All things point to a defensive draft for the Raiders but McKenzie hasn’t stopped from adding quality depth to the team albeit with spending almost nothing. Our friends at Fansided’s Just Blog Baby pointed out so far in free agency the team has only spent $600 thousand via their Twitter account.

Marshall Newhouse, Jelani Jenkins, and E.J. Manuel will provide veteran depth at their respective positions meanwhile McKenzie continues to build through the draft, it should be noted however one of the positions yet to be addressed is running back with the loss of Latavius Murray.
Long gone are the days of overpaying or begging players to play for the Raiders and more importantly signing players who were on their third contract, this is truly a special time for the team building happening out in Oakland.
