Maurice Hurst Jr, Defensive Tackle
Heading into the 2020 NFL season, the Raiders have a revamped defensive line stacked with young talent. Everyone’s familiar with Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby, along with the new additions of Maliek Collins and Carl Nassib. However, it’s former fifth-round pick, Maurice Hurts who had something to prove in 2020.
Hurst is in a tough spot with so much depth now at defensive tackle for the Raiders. To make matter worse, head coach Jon Gruden recently called out Hurst and two other Raiders. It seems Hurst already has a lot to prove to Gruden much less fulfilling any fan expectations. Can he even make it out of training camp?
“They have to prove they belong in this league. They have to prove they can be frontline guys. Maurice Hurst has had some good moments, but we need these guys to burst on the scene no question. Getting Rod Marinelli is the best thing I can do to allow that to happen.”
In the end, each of these three have something to prove for different reasons. Mullen needs to set out and show his rookie season wasn’t a fluke caused by a lack of talent around him. Kwiatkoski needs to prove the money spent on him by the Raiders wasn’t wasted on him. For Hurst, he just needs to prove he still belongs in a Raiders uniform.
