The Raiders offensive line must protect Carr at all cost
They say in the NFL that the play of the offensive line is one that goes undiscussed. Well, the spotlight will have all eyes on the play of the Raiders’ large and lengthy offensive line this week. Having right tackle Trent Brown is a huge plus on quarterback Derek Carr’s right side as he’ll need all the help he can get against this ferocious Tampa Bay defensive line. The Bucs defensive line has posed nightmares for opposing offensives this year and they currently ranked second in the league in sacks with 22 on the year already. The Pittsburg Steelers are first with 24 quarterback takedowns.
Tampa’s line includes defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and William Gholston, and last year’s NFL sack leader Shaq Barrett. The battle of the trenches will be a fun matchup to watch all night long. The Buccaneers are 0-1 on the season when they get only one sack, so if the Silver and Black’s ‘hog mollies’ can keep Carr’s jersey clean and dominate at the line of scrimmage, their odds of winning will increase.
“Carr Insurance” must keep their quarterback upright and give him time to find the open man. Brown showed how different the unit is when he’s on the field and if the team can get guard Richie Incognito back in the lineup, they will get another bust.
