Raiders Need To Kick The Tires On RB Mark Ingram

The Las Vegas Raiders have a stud in running back Josh Jacobs. His backup in 2020, Devontae Booker, was pretty good himself. However, he’s set to become a free agent and he may hit the open market. If the Silver and Black can’t retain ’23’, they should consider kicking the tires on Mark Ingram Jr.

The Ravens have moved on from Mark Ingram

The Baltimore Ravens announced they have waived Ingram. The former first-round pick joined the team on a three-year $15 million deal back in 2019. He had a 1,000-yard season and made the Pro Bowl in his first year but fell out of favor in 2020 and tallied just 72 carries for 299 yards and two touchdowns.

Ingram isn’t getting any younger, his $5 million salary in 2021 might’ve been too much for the Ravens. Nevertheless, he still averaged 4.2 yards and logged 1,018 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 202 carries the year before. The 10-year running back will hit the waiver wire and can be claimed by any team that is interested in his services. If nobody picks him up, he will then become an unrestricted free agent and will be able to sign with whomever he wants.

The Raiders could find out if Mark Ingram has gas left in the tank

When it comes to the Raiders, the defensive side of the ball should be their priority this offseason. However, they can’t neglect their offense. They need to decide whether they want wide receiver Nelson Agholor back. Also, they may need to revamp their offensive line. Therefore, the backup running back position may be at the end of their ‘to-do’ list.

Booker played well in a limited role in 2020, racking up 93 carries for 423 yards and three touchdowns. Moreover, he could carry the load if needed, as he showed in against the Denver Broncos in Week 10. In that contest, the Utah product ran the ball 16 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Based on his production in 2020, he may not fit the Raiders’ budget.

For that reason, it would make sense for this Las Vegas team to have a backup plan, and target Ingram, who is just one year removed from a 1-000 yard season. 2020 could’ve been an outlier or it proved the running back is on the decline. If the Silver and Black want to find out, they should bring him in for a workout and see if this lion has one last roar.

  1. If Booker is brought back, no need for Ingram. What Gruden needs is a RB that can catch the ball out of the back field. Line up in the slot and if necessary take advantage of mismatches vs LBS. Think of how Gruden used Charlie Garner in his first go around.

Richard was limited and rarely caught the ball downfield even with this exceptional speed.
