Raiders: NC State’s WR Emeka Emezie Is Next ‘Gruden Grinder’

North Carolina State’s Emeka Emezie could be a big-play speedster that would stretch the field for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders’ wide receiver corps could use a boost

The Raiders’ wide receiver group has some question marks heading into this offseason. Nelson Agholor was the team’s number one pass-catcher, but his return’s not guaranteed. It’s also likely the team will move on from the injury-riddled Tyrell Williams, who hasn’t made his projected impact, so where would another receiver like Emezie fit with the team? Well, it depends on what direction Jon Gruden’s offense takes.

The team possesses Henry Ruggs III, whose speed forces defenses to focus on him every play. Then, there’s Hunter Renfrow who continues to move the chains on third down. Bryan Edwards, the other receiver drafted last year, showed promise in the final game of the season. However, if the team stands to lose both Agholor and Williams or just one, they still need more speed.

Emezie can provide the speed this Las Vegas team loves

No one’s suggesting the team use a first or second-round pick on a wide receiver, not with so many defensive holes. However, a mid or late-round selection could pay off big if Emezie’s available. The six-foot-three receiver produced at North Carolina State, excelling in big plays that resulted in touchdowns. He totaled 13 touchdowns against ACC defenses over a four-year span, playing 45 games. In his senior year, Emezie averaged 15.7 yards a reception and notched five of those touchdowns.

A physical specimen that punishes defenders, combined with his breakaway speed could have deadly results for the Raiders. In his film, Emezie displays his ability to use his body to bully defenders, he’s not afraid of making a little contact. His frame and subsequent length are noteworthy too, he can make catches with ease no matter the traffic, and his arm reach is impressive.

Emezie’s measurables are almost identical to Edwards, but the latter has to earn his spot on the field by proving he can stay on it. Drafting Emezie to play the ‘X’ would be interesting considering his speed. The under-the-radar prospect could end up being a physical nightmare for smaller NFL cornerbacks. If he’s there late, the Silver and Black should ponder it at the very least.

  1. T. Williams and Zay Jones might both be gone. I don’t see the Raiders having a big need for WR. Maybe 5th round or later but more draft picks will need to be on the defensive side. Raiders should also a dual threat as a WR and KR since our special team hasn’t been very good. Ruggs and Renfrow shouldn’t be returning kicks.

  2. The Raiders need a Alpha Wr not one who Drops wide open passes and like the others that has speed but is Fragile Hunter Renfrow is the only one that check all the Boxes the rest needs improvement so Quit playing Get rid of Tyrell Williams. He’s good but Fragile , ZayJones is fragile Mentally, Nelson Aghlor can be a Beast but he Drops to many Passes . Go get Allen Robinson Draft. A Dog receiver Trade or release or restructure every one else

  3. We have to get our QB and we can actually keep our 1st round pick and give up Carr and a second and 3rd and jump up to get Trey Lance that’s our QB love Carr respect Carr as a Man but he’s not our QB
