The wait is almost over. The Las Vegas Raiders will finally suit up for meaningful action, kicking off the season Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Let’s look at some players that could factor into the Silver and Black’s chances at victory.
Which three Raiders should we keep an eye on?
Foster Moreau, TE
Don’t let the recent rash of injuries fool you. The Ravens still have an insanely talented defense, and the secondary has a case for its most potent component. Darren Waller is option A in nearly any passing attack scenario. However, Baltimore should be prepared for that, whether Gruden places 83 in line or splits him out wide. This should open up plenty of opportunities for Moreau to prove he’s ready to establish himself as a true force in the passing game.
The LSU product will already be relied upon as a blocker as the Raiders establish the run. Fans have been waiting for ‘Baby Gronk’Â to flash the potential he showed his rookie season over an entire campaign. That should begin on Monday night.
Kenyan Drake, RB
The Raiders signing of Kenyan Drake was met with a lot of resistance from the media (then again, what Raider signing isn’t). Many didn’t understand the need to pay another running back starter’s money when the team already employs third-year back Josh Jacobs. Gruden safely played the preseason, so Monday will be the first time we see how he truly utilizes Drake in the game script. Will Gruden use the Alabama product as a “weapon,” spreading him out wide as much as lining up in the backfield? I’m excited to watch whenever ‘23‘ steps on the field.
Andre James, C
This feels like beating a dead horse, but it has to be stated. Andre James could make or break the level at which this offense performs this season. The Raiders will be opening their season in a nationally televised game in front of live fans in Las Vegas for the first time since they opened the doors to Allegiant Stadium. Can James comfortably communicate with Carr? Will there be snap issues? Can he deal with quality pressure consistently? The Las Vegas coaching staff continue to heap praise onto the former UCLA Bruin, but until we see the results on the field, we can only hold our breath.
